Java

Java started off in the early 1990s as a programming language for use in television set top boxes. It later became incorporated into early web browsers as a way to add interactivity to websites via small client-side applications called applets.

Java is now more commonly used in server-side technologies such as servlets and Java Server Pages (JSP).
